How I Create My Flat Lays For Instagram

Hey, everyone! Last week was so busy for me! So drained from my job. I literally don’t have any energy to do anything once I am off from work. This week I picked up some shifts. I’ll be working 6 days straight! 😩 Need the funds but I am not happy with the thought of being there for 6 days 😭 I had to take a break from Instagram. I needed to recollect my thoughts. I hope my motivation to create posts for my Instagram will soon come back this week. I’ve been feeling a little unmotivated, to be honest. Depression is a bitch. I have products that need to be reviewed. Swatches that need to be done but I am feeling so blah 😕

Ironically, I’m here to talk about Instagram anyhow! I recently saw a post in a group I run on FB, about creating flat lays or flat layouts as they are called. A lot of people ask me what I do to create my flat lays. Honestly, they’re pretty easy to do & achieve! Here’s some information on how I create my flat lays/layouts for my Instagram.

I use a white foam board or a marble background. I’ve used vinyl contact paper, but now I use a dry erase board that I purchased from Target. I got so tired of looking for a marble pastry board 🙄 A marble pastry board was recommended to me to purchase. But it was either too expensive or just not what I was looking for. I’ve been hunting for a year. However, a marble tile from Home Depot, a tile store or any hardware store, will do. & it’s cost efficient. I’ve seen tiles run for $4! The foam board, I purchased at Michaels. I found it in the arts & crafts section for kids. Like for school projects.

I also have small chunky heart shaped glitter (in the shot above, you can see them in between the Nars foundation & the MUFE product) that I purchased from Michael’s as well. It’s for decorative purposes. But I use them to place products & objects that won’t stay still. Like a liquid lipstick, nail polish. Mascara. I’ll show a video soon of what exactly I do 🙂

As mentioned before, creating flat lays are pretty easy! Just need to know how to position your products & also your camera to take the shot. Also using props are essential. Fake flowers, candles are some suggestions you can use for your photographs 😊 I find it gives photos a little more character.

If you still need more help, I suggest studying some Instagram pages. Whatever your niche is; fashion, beauty, food, lifestyle, fitness. Whatever it is, you can find a flat lay for it! Also, scrolling through hashtags help a lot as well. That’s how I started. I would just search IG accounts that did beauty flat lays. At first, I wasn’t all that great, but then I began doing my own thing. Sometimes I have trouble. I hate forcing a flat lay. Because it doesn’t come out right. That’s just me personally, to be honest. Otherwise, I love doing flat lays! They’re so easy.

Here’s a list of Instagrams & hashtags I love to stalk with amazing flat lays!:

I do hope this was at least a little informative. Creating flat layouts is pretty easy but can be a little time-consuming. Just take your time. & if it seems frustrating, just leave it alone & come back to it. Sometimes I feel like my flat lays never come out right. It has to do with the lighting, the time of day or just my mood overall. So most time, I just leave it alone & come back to it. Once I do, I get an idea on how to better position my products.

Know of any other flat lay IG pages or sites you love? Link them down below! I’d love to check them out 😀

Thanks for this! Part of why I don’t post a lot on IG is because my pictures are trash/I never have content to post. This is pretty helpful 🙂

Sometimes you just need to revamp. & looking over your fave IG accounts can help for sure 😊 Good luck on your IG posts. Don’t take it to harshly tho. You should still post. People like when folks are themselves & not a cookie cutter.

Ah I will definitely try this for my food and accessories pieces. Thanks! I actually seen the marble tile too. I usually use a plain white piece of material. But the marble will add to it and make it look nice.

Yeah most definitely! If you can find a tile, that works too! I’m looking to buy some white sheets soon & do flat lays with those too. I’ve heard wall paper is a good alternative as well.

That’s good too! Whatever you feel works for you, is all that’s matters honestly. I’m looking to buy a new white faux fur rug soon. One that is bigger for sure & actually looks white.

Yeah it’s an all marble design that I found at Target. It’s the only one of its kind that I’ve seen. But you have vinyl paper & marble tiles as well 😊

I love your blog, btw! But I’m really into flat lays… not good at all but I’m trying! I bought some contact paper and tried to put it on a foam board. It’s not perfect but it’s a start! I need more decorative pieces though. Thanks for this post!
