Not Your Mother’s Naturals Curl Defining Product Review

Hello, everyone!! Happy June! Can’t believe we’re half way through the year! This year is just flying by. So many changes coming about. And speaking of changes. If you haven’t noticed already, I finally migrated to WordPress! It’s taking some time to adjust but I am teaching myself how to maneuver through the site little by little. I was always saying I wanted to switch over to WordPress. But I had no idea it would be so hard to use lol! I find Blogger (Blogspot), to be easier to use. I’ve been using Blogger for years now. However, WordPress is a lot better for bloggers. As far as SEO goes & other plugins you can add to further help your platform. It’s pretty neat overall ๐Ÿ™‚

So recently, I’ve been making other personal changes. I’ve been kind of excited to do my hair & try new products for my hair. I’ve been watching YouTube videos on more hair care solutions & tips. I have really dry hair. & I haven’t really been taking care of it. I have just been wearing wigs for the past 3 months now. And now that it’s getting warmer, wearing wigs is just too much for me. I feel like I’m wearing a really warm hat lol! So lately I’ve been trying to care for my hair a little more. I am natural & I have 4C hair time. Which is prone to a lot more dryness, breakage & hair damage.

For my wash day routine, I’ve been using Maui Moisture’s product line for Dry & Damaged. I love the conditioner, & the hair masque. But I feel my hair hates the shampoo. I always have to use another type of shampoo for my hair. & follow up with the conditioner & deep conditioner afterward. Recently, I was watching a wash and go video by MahoganyCurls on YouTube. Although she & I have totally different hair textures, I thought why not look into this product line.

I know Ulta had their hair sale recently. I wasn’t able to get it then, unfortunately. But I went to Target & purchased the products there. I wash my hair at least every 2 weeks. I try to do it every two weeks. If I go any longer (& I have), my hair starts to feel super brittle & it’s hard to do. I have to find a new gel soon. The Eco Styler gel dries my hair out so bad & puts so much product build up onto my scalp. It’s really just the worst. But this shampoo really scrubbed away the dirt on my scalp. I was surprised. It says it has no sulfates, but the shampoo suds were a lot! A little too much for my liking. But it left my hair squeaky clean.

The conditioner was really phenomenal. It didn’t feel too thick. It had a little slip to it. Didn’t feel like it was sitting on my hair either. I expected a lot of shedding while detangling because it was 2 weeks in. But very minimal shedding, which is a good thing! I ended up cutting my stringy ends some more. I little left. But I have a feeling I may need to overall big chop ๐Ÿ˜•

I found that my curls really popped with this conditioner. I love the smell so much! It was easy to rinse out & my hair just felt overall amazing! I deep conditioned my hair as normal & went on to style it.

I go through a lot of curling creams & smoothies. It’s really annoying having to find one that works. I’ve been loving two products by Maui Moisture. However this combing cream really defined my curls. & didn’t make my hair feel heavy at all. It’s pretty lightweight honestly.

When I took down my Bantu Knots the following day, my hair felt super soft! It was however damp :/ ย So my hair came out super weird ๐Ÿ˜‚ But overall, I love how my hair feels. I would definitely recommend this product line to anyone with curly hair. Especially my 4C natural girls ๐Ÿ˜„ I was very skeptical at first. I kept putting it back, picking it back up. I’m glad I did. This was my first time trying this brand after years of seeing it in-stores. Nice to know this line in particular was a winner! ๐Ÿ˜

Great review! Recently gone natural so open to try different products๐Ÿ˜Š
I can relate on not wanting to fully chop ๐Ÿ˜‚but strangely enough I felt my hair reacted to products better after I did, can’t say why that is though.

Yeah I was really surprised on how my hair reacted to these products. But the BC is still in the air for me. I really want to see how my hair will be in possibly the next month. By then if I don’t see much change, I will just do it. I think starting over would be so much better!

I took a year off from styling to get to know my hair, too. It’s been challenging but great. I haven’t heard of this brand, but I’d like to check it out. Also a 4C chick as well ๐Ÿ˜ŠAlso, welcome to WordPress! They just added a bunch of plugins so I’m excited to get into that.

I’m so glad you reviewed this product. I was in Target the other day and walked passed it twice trying to decide if I should pick it up. But I’m definitely going to pick it up now. Also a little hair tip that may help you is to let your hair air dry a little before you bantu knot it, that way the next day its completely dry.

Finding this is Toronto is going to be difficult. I wear wigs and I am natural and like to make sure my hair is clean but moisturized. I am going to hunt and see if I can find the shampoo.

Your photos are beautiful ! I’m going to check out this line ! I have 4c/4D hair ! So I totally understand what you mean about dry hair ! Have you ever checked the porosity of your hair !? I found that I hve low poroisity hair so I hbe to do the GHE in order to really get the moisture to absorb. It makes a world of a difference !

I just started using the leave in conditioner from the line that has Kalahari melon and something else (it’s in the orange/yellow bottle with green writing) and I like it a lot. Will look into these next time I’m in the market for some hair products ๐Ÿ™‚

I was curious about this new line from NYM when I heard they were coming out with naturals line. Glad to hear a good review on it for 4c hair, that is my hair type as well. NYM makes pretty decent hair products I like their leave in and deja vu du product. The de ja vu du smells awesome so I’m thinking the naturals line has smell great as well.

Yes! This line smells amazing! I only saw this product line for curls at Target. But they have a few others as well I’ve been told. Give this product line a try if you do consider ๐Ÿ™‚
